Going to the origins
to look toward the future
The 800th Anniversary of the Fundació de l’Orde has served as an incentive for the Fundació Obra Mercedària to recognize the value of providing the project with a renewed identity, one that is simultaneously firmly rooted in the history and meanings of the Order. These signs will serve from now on in the externalization of our social work.
One word
By reclaiming the Latin name that 800 years ago gave title to the emerging adventure of Sant Pere Nolasc and his first companions, we want to help make the footprint of the great Mercedarian family more visible and global in the initiatives and works we face in these new times. The “mercedarii” logo will act symbolically as a “watermark,” as a common ground for the Mercedarian family, in the Foundation’s communication.

One symbol
An enlarged lowercase ‘m’. The initial of the words Mercè, Maria, Misericòrdia… also the initial of our order, has been the sign chosen to build upon it a symbol that integrates the cross, the bars, and the crown jewels present in our legendary shield, utilizing the graphic language of our time.
We conceive the new Mercedarian ‘m’ as the representation of a meeting space, a balcony to the world, a roof for shelter and modern redemption, under the austere lines of the Romanesque arches that transport us to the settings of our own origins.

One color
Respecting the colors white, red, and gold, which have accompanied the Order for eight centuries, present in both its habit and its shield, the Fundació Obra Mercedària has proposed enriching the color palette by adding to its identity signs a color of deep spiritual and liturgical significance, which is also a mundane color of struggle and freedom.
